Building Confidence Through Clarity: The Next-Gen TPN Shields
Nearly 90% of TPN members work on pre-release content. Yet, our assessments show that 96% of vendors still have security gaps.
Through the Motion Picture Association’s 360-Strong program—which unites insights from ACE (the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment) and TPN—we’ve seen recurring vulnerabilities across the supply chain: missing multi-factor authentication, weak passwords, and social engineering risks. Analysis of nearly 1,000 TPN assessments highlights additional pain points, including poor firewall controls, weak vulnerability management, and a lack of penetration testing.
It should be no surprise if Content Owners are calling for stronger safeguards.
Raising the Bar
Since relaunching the TPN program in 2023, we’ve strengthened expectations by requiring remediation plans for companies seeking a Gold Shield. In parallel, we’ve partnered with Content Owners to update the MPA Best Practices, refine the TPN program, and expand resources—like our Partner Resource Center, which offers free security templates and group discounts on services such as penetration testing.
But remediation plans alone aren’t enough. Without progress, customers are left to chase answers directly from their service providers, creating inefficiencies and added costs for all.
A Clearer System
That’s why TPN is introducing the new four-tier Shield structure:
- Blue – Self-reported
- Silver – TPN assessed plus remediation plan
- Gold – All Best Practices remediated
- Gold Star – Best Practices and Additional Recommendations remediated
The next-gen Shields bring transparency to remediation progress, enabling Service Providers to showcase improvements and Content Owners to make more informed, risk-based decisions.
Progress You Can See
The next-gen TPN Shields give the industry a trusted baseline—allowing us to focus less on re-validating past work and more on strengthening security together.
This system was built on the foundations of the TPN program, aligned with the MPA Content Security Best Practices, and shaped through collaboration with our studio partners. It’s a collective, industry-backed step forward in content protection
Thank you to our partners for helping us shape this important update. Together, we are raising the bar and bringing clarity, confidence, and momentum to our shared mission of keeping content secure.
